Silver Spurs & Summer Wine (anthology)
  • It's a story based on the musical appreciation of the voice/guitar, male/female duet from the Sixties titled "Summer Wine". Here, it's described as the musings and soliloquy of a rancher cum nobleman cowboy of high stature and reputation. He narrates his experience of a day while on a routine seasonal survey of his vast ancestral ranch. He lost his way, wandered, and reached places he has never seen before. A mix of distressing thoughts rushes into his mind as he makes his rounds and makes new and sometimes shocking discoveries. Well, It turned out to be quite an eye-opening, but a largely distressing experience.

He gives an eyewitness account of a range of topics: ranch & ranchers; cowboys & cattlemen; the history of the land; the indigenous people & the invaders; greed & deception; domination & subjugation; enactment of oppressive laws on the vanquished; immunity & privileged laws for the conquerors; the formation of new industries of meat processing, oil, gas, and fracking; the boom & bust cycles that followed; struggles of ordinary people & communities; degradation of earth & environment; Methane, CO2 & Greenhouse gas emissions; drastic climate changes, deforestation & extinction of species. At the same time, it's been an interesting, educational, as well as a thought-provoking expedition of immense consequences.

The actual climactic and suspenseful event in the song takes place at an old, quaint, out-back Mexican tavern in the farthest outskirts of the rugged ranch nestled within a rocky and extensive escarpment range.

Oh, well, the taste of wine was alluring and lingering on the pallet; the music quite sweet and melodious; the Mexicano guitarrón was loud and delectably played; the hostess in her Mayan costume was gorgeous, congenial, and endearing.

Sounds interesting? But, how did it all end?.

It is indeed fascinating to read and find out!

In the meantime, please enjoy the music video of once-famous song "Summer wine"!
