score: Omkara Na da nu-Sankaraabharanam
  • Lyrics & notes in pdf

This is a musical score of the very famous South Indian Carnatic classical music “Sankaraabharanam”. All aspiring classical musicians are required to learn it!. To benefit global music lovers, I ventured to compile and notate it in Western music writing form. It's very carefully articulated and annotated. The Carnatic music has a prolific suite of raagams- 72 to be exact, as it's scientific, analytical, detailed, and complex; despite the fact, it is flawlessly improvisational. This music is about the Carnatic raagam but widely confused with a song, as well as a South Indian hit-movie in Telungu by the same name. The song has several distinct and rich features with a magnificent style to it. Both the song and the raagam are always renditioned with great flair and zest. The finale is all about solmization, articulating the 7 keynotes namely, Sa, Ri, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni, sung in resounding style and fervor with heavy articulations, rich ornamentation, tempo variations, as well as changes in dynamics/ 'rasa'. Classical Carnatic music is usually renditioned, accompanied by the instruments: Veena, keyboard, flute, oboe, violin, and percussion instruments lead by Mrudangam. This score displays the grand staff; the treble clef shows voice or solo instrument, while the accompaniment is given on the Bass clef/ staff, also distinguished by red note heads. It's ready for an orchestra to play. It took me several rework attempts, as well as determined efforts, to complete this tedious project so that many may enjoy it. As additional resources, MP3 recording in Piano is provided, although Piano playing is an absolute rarity in Carnatic music. A short essay on the raagam 'Sankarabharanam' itself, is also posted on:
