Ravi & Ramani (lyrics)
  • song Lyrics: in Malayalam

also known as "a teenager's dream" &" Illale Njanoru Swapnam Kande!"

You know, I had a dream last night!

(The score is not available, but will be posted soon!

The tune is a parody of "Swedish Rhapsody" (Midsummer Vigil) composer: Hugo Emil Alfvén

Sweden lying in the extreme latitude in the upper Northern hemisphere enjoys almost 24 hour day in mid-summer and as much night time in the mid-winter seasons!

Ravi & Ramani are childhood sweethearts in their young minds, and only in their own minds.

Ravi is an avid fan of VallamKali (Kerala paddle boat races). He takes part in HS boat races, though never won anything. Quite strangely, he cannot swim!. If the boat turns over and sinks, he holds firmly on to its rim until someone gets the boat ashore.

The date of the Vallam Kali races in the local river is fast approaching. Ravi has been building up considerable anticipation for it. Since he has been behind in studies he was severely admonished and denied some privileges including anything to do with the races.

One night, he had a dream of going to the boat races. He decides to slip away, skulk from home and off to the races without his parent's permission; that too taking Remani with him.  Being seen with Ramani will raise a lot of problems for him. His father and older brother are very conservative and strict. They run the entire household with an iron hand. They seldom smile; are rude to the neighbors too. On the contrary, the women folks are mild and amiable.

Well, Ravi told Ramani that he is a very smart guy and had hatched out a perfect plan of adventure and execution. She simply has to follow him with unwavering confidence in him. He said he will escort Ramani all the way to the races, and needs to have no worries at all, what so ever.

Finally, they ventured out and decided to go to the venue on foot. On their way, they had to cross over a wide canal. There is a 'one-piece' flimsy bamboo bridge propped up contraption built by the school children for saving some time off their daily walking commute.  It is precariously propped up high on a pair of discarded coconut posts. The grown-up village folks use a roundabout path by the marketplace for their safety, although somewhat time-consuming.

Ravi wanted to show off to Ramani, and for good reasons to avoid the busy marketplace. The nosy people there will make nuisances!. By nature, Ramani is afraid of heights. But, Ravi, in his characteristic debonair attitude reassured her. He narrated fake stories of his past adventures, acrobatic moves, and the extraordinary skills he has which he keeps just to himself and uses only when needed.

Ravi hummed some tunes to release his own fear and proceeded ahead in a seemingly casual manner. Emboldened by the reassurances she was given, Ramani set out with him following close behind.

Lo and behold, halfway on it, the bamboo swayed, swung widely; gave way, broke into two pieces.

    Plum!

plunging them both into the deep water below flowing with heavy under-current.

Eswara! ( oh, God!) what then ... and after that.....? Bhagavane! (good Lord!) ...did the young pair drown? .........How did all end!.......deeper problems........or was it tragic?......or a narrow escape?...... .....

    must read to find out!

Note!:  there are a few passages of dialogues in the native parlance.
